County Budget Committee vacancy
The Lincoln County Commissioners request applications for a vacancy on the county’s Budget Committee. The selected applicant will join the county commissioners, Finance Officer Christina Shearer and citizens John Baird and Carrie Boyd.
The Budget Committee has been historically comprised of three county commissioners plus three appointed citizens. The committee receives the proposed budget from the budget officer; reviews detailed budget information during several public hearings, deliberates on decision options that may be required to balance the budget, and prepares an approved budget for consideration by the Board of Commissioners.
The county’s budget is prepared in accordance with provisions of Oregon’s Local Budget Law. The law provides standard procedures for the preparation, presentation and administration of the operating budget for all local governments. The law mandates public involvement in budget preparation and public exposure of its proposed programs. The law also requires that the budget be balanced in its presentation to the Budget Committee. Schools, counties, cities, rural fire protection districts, urban renewal agencies, and most special districts in Oregon are subject to the same budgeting provisions.
Potential Budget Committee members should be aware of the time commitment and expected meeting dates during April and May. Future meeting length is undetermined and typically ranges from one to three hours.
