Dustin’s life
(written by sister Brianna, age 22)
Captain, skipper, Seafair, Dustin’s veins coursed with sea water. We all love the ocean but Dustin made it his life. A life he loved to share with his family, friends, and every fortunate soul that got to board the Morning Star. Not many people are lucky enough to feel the freedom that Dustin felt every day on the sea. Dustin was so much more than a captain. He was selfless. If you would cling to him, he would hold you tighter. His smile would melt you. And his heart was so caring and precious and loving. He loved to joke and eat and be around family and friends. It’s impossible to fit his whole life here. Despite it being tragically shorter than most, his memory will live on through the many that loved him, while our Captain Dustin sails the next lands we all will eventually travel.
Dustin ran the charter fishing vessel Morning Star for Tradewinds Depoe Bay Oregon. Dustin had a heart for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at age 18. Dustin is survived by his son Colby. He is survived by his mother Jeannie Vahsholtz-Liimakka; his father Stanley Todd Couch; his brother Colin Reed Phillips; his brother Derek Couch; his sister Brianna Phillips; and his sister Britney Couch; nephews, nieces, and grandfather Richard Fred Vahsoltz.
Dustin is preceded in death by his grandmother and grandfather Dee and Sherman Couch; and his grandmother Diana Jolene Vahsholtz; and nephew Matthew Richard Phillips.
Dustin’s ashes will be spread out to sea per his wishes this Friday afternoon March 26, 2021 in Depoe Bay Oregon Harbor.
Bateman Funeral Home of Newport Oregon was gracious enough to provide all services for Dustin. This is submitted by Dustin‘s mother Jeannie.
