Kathy Sullivan 1943 – 2019

Kathy Sullivan

Kathy was born in 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri and had quite a varied life. As the second oldest of seven siblings, she learned early the value of helping others. Upon immediate graduation from high school, she became a Catholic nun and spent more than seven years as a part of the Ursuline Sisters of Paola, Kansas.

After departing from the convent, Kathy dove into education and earned a JD, and then opened her own law office. After the death of her husband Bill in 1982, she raised her son Finn and helped care for nephew Matt and nieces Holiday and Colleen.

In the last third of her life, Kathy moved to Oregon and became a full-time writer and part-time fisherwoman. She loved Waldport more than anywhere else on earth and could often be seen walking her dog Molly on the beach.

Kathy's family will hold a small, private celebration of life for her on Saturday after she is laid to rest. Her son Finn asks that you honor her memory by practicing the values that she shared: caring for others, staying strong in the face of adversity, and being true to oneself.
