Patrick Dennis Hannan 82, of Newport, Oregon, born in Houston, Texas passed away suddenly Friday evening at SPCH, November 22, 2019 in Newport, Oregon. Patrick had a substantial medical setback, when he became blind as a result of failing sight and unsuccessful medical treatment.

Patrick was born to Charles Joseph Hannan and Cecilia Agnes Kubin in 1937; the fifth of ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by four sons: Edward Hannan-Canete of Salt Lake City, Utah, Charles Hannan of Miami, Florida, Joseph Hannan of Albany, Oregon, and Nathaniel Hannan of Corvallis, Oregon; and a granddaughter Isabel of Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was known for his professional and calm demeanor. He was an accomplished book and literature aficionado. Patrick could discuss authors, books and literature trends both contemporary and historical. He was an avid reader, fan of soccer and encouraged his sons to play and was patient with their mischievous behaviors.

Patrick was educated in the Catholic School system and graduated from the University of Portland and taught English as a second language to adults in Southern California prior to moving to the Newport area.

Patrick was a longtime resident and book store owner in Newport, Oregon. He was active in community affairs including the Newport Library Building Committee and as a Member of the Urban Renewal Committee for the City of Newport. He had a wide circle of family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life Service for Patrick is scheduled on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Place and time will be announced.
