Philip Walter Rilatos Sr. April 1935-November 2020
Philip Walter Rilatos Sr, 85, of Waldport, passed on November 4, 2020 at home with his loving wife of 45 years by his side.
He married his wife Sharon Rilatos in 1975, at the Fern Grotto in Kauai, Hawaii.
Phil was born in Logsden, Oregon to Pearl and Tuton Rilatos in 1935.
His greatest joys in life were all his family, career, football, boxing, Portland wresting, and a homemade meal.
He served in the US Navy for 25 years until retiring as SKCM Master Chief of the Pacific Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. During his service he was based out of Coronado, CA as part of the Underwater Demolitions Teams aka ‘Frogmen’, which is now known as the US Navy Seals. He loved boxing and was Navy middleweight boxing champion and a Golden Gloves.
He then worked for the US government at Angell Job Corp in Yachats, OR for more than a decade before accepting the general manager role for the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. He then went back to public service at Fort Simcoe Job Corps as Center Director in White Swan, WA. During this time he was a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians tribal council.
He later returned to work for the tribe as Economic Development Director in Siletz OR which included the founding of the Chinook Windows Casino. Next he became director of human resources for the casino. Again Phil later became a member of the Tribal Council.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon Rilatos. His children Phil Rilatos Jr, Lily Rilatos, Denise Jordan, Dana Rilatos Jennings, Larry Chacon, Bill Chacon, and Kimmy Rilatos Black. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Shawna Rilatos, father, mother and all 5 siblings.
Memorial will be held outdoors on Friday, November 13th at 1pm at Paul Washington Cemetery in Siletz, OR.
